My nephew was born this past Monday. It will fall upon me to make sure he grows up car obsessed. Aside from the Sounds of the Automobile playlist I am compiling, what else are good items to plant the seed early?
I don't think car themed clothing(like above) will really do it. Tactile items would probably make the biggest impression. I will definitely be getting something like this.

Enjoy every minute of it, spend as much time with him as you can, they grow up real fast. I have my 16 and 12 year old nephews with me tonight watching movies. I remember holding them when they were first born like it was yesterday.

I haven't seen a Will It Baby in a while, so I guess you can pick up where Torch left off. After he's learned the basics of how to human, you can document the process of raising a championship winning kart racer and turning him into a Formula 1 driver.

Oh, YAY AGRAJAG!!!!! Congratulations to you and your brother/sister! Maybe you could do a couple of drawings of cars that could be hung up in his nursery? Put them in some nice frames and they'll be something he can have with him for years. I still have a couple of pieces of wall art from my childhood, and I treasure them.
And as far as getting him to be car obsessed, just include him in things. Offer to take him for a cruise every now and then. It'll accomplish two things: it'll give you some quality time with him, and it'll give mom/dad a chance to get a brief respite and maybe catch up on some sleep. As he gets older, keep up the uncle/nephew days. Take him to local car shows, let him hang around when you're doing simple stuff like changing the oil. Let him ask all the questions he wants. Basically, you being passionate about something while including him in that will eventually start rubbing off.
Congratulations, again. You're gonna be a great uncle! You already are!

Thanks :) Great ideas. I guess until he's a little more mobile I'll just hold him and make car noises.

Mother of God! How'd I forget about them? I'm going to have to make a customized one like this.

I've got a shitload of micromachines somewhere I'll have to dig out when he's less likely to consume them.

Congratulations! I've been helping friends indoctrinate their own tiny gearhead, and have had good luck finding wooden car toys. Have a look for the Melissa and Doug stacking cars and Automoblox .

When he is old enough, (5) build him a Gasoline powered go-kart. None of that electric Barbie shit, its gotta be gas, with no muffler. Doesn't have to be fast, just loud, scary and fun as hell. Before that, well, maybe hot wheels or matchbox cars. Consider taking him to a small motorcycle event, like a local enduro or motocross. Buy him a small bicycle or tricycle, NOT a big wheel. Be AHEAD of the curve! When other kids are riding rocking horses, have him tooling around on his tricycle and actually getting somewhere. When they are on their 20" bikes, he's cruising around in his loud ass go kart, when they're on full size bikes, he's got a dirt bike he races on weekends. Want to be Uncle of the Year? Get him an old pick up he can fix up when he is 15 so its ready when he gets his license, then HIDE from his Mother.

Hmmm. They already have baby seats for each of their vehicles, but looks like they make booster seats for when he outgrows those.
My state requires a kid to be in one until at least 8 years old.

Making car noises and letting him pretend he's a race car sound perfect. ^_^

Had a daughter (our first) on Nov 24th. She already has Recaro ProRide convertible seats and puma racing shoes (pink). Amazon has onesies that look like Audi racing suits and a sweet Ferrari f1 walker! I told my wife that she is going to race karts, lol. I think it is no coincidence that she loves riding in the car.
